Notifications

Choose what ProjectPacer nudges you about and where each one lands — a Slack DM, a desktop notification, or a browser alert.

ProjectPacer can nudge you about time you haven't logged, a timer left running, or the day's summary — but it never assumes. Everything is off until you turn it on, and you decide both what it tells you and where each one lands. It all lives under Settings → Notifications.

The grid: what × where

The page is a grid. Each row is a kind of notification; each column is a delivery channel. Switch on any cell to get that notification on that channel — a running-timer nudge as a Slack DM and a browser alert, the daily digest on desktop only, whatever fits.

Settings → Notifications: switch on any cell to route that notification to that channel. A channel that can't deliver yet (here, Browser) shows a lock instead of a toggle.

The three channels:

  • Slack — a direct message from @ProjectPacer. Connect a workspace to use it.
  • Desktop app — a native notification from the menu-bar app. Clicking it opens the relevant page.
  • Browser — a push alert from the browser or phone you enable it on, even when ProjectPacer is closed. No download. (In the installed Home-Screen app this column is labelled This device.)
A channel that can't reach you is locked

A column only offers toggles once it can actually deliver. Until then its cells show a lock and the header shows how to connect — Connect → for Slack, Get the app for desktop. That way you never switch on a nudge that quietly goes nowhere.

Browser alerts are per-device

Browser is enabled per device, right on the page: click Enable here and allow notifications when your browser asks. Because the subscription belongs to the one browser you enabled it in, do it again on each device you want alerts on. The column header shows ● On here once it's set, with a test link to fire a sample notification and an off link to turn it back off. It's off by default and stored only until you disable it — see how it's handled in Privacy & your data.

On iPhone, add ProjectPacer to your Home Screen first

iOS only delivers web push to an installed app. Open ProjectPacer in Safari, tap the Share icon, choose Add to Home Screen, then open it from there — the Enable here button (and the one-tap prompt on the AI Suggestions screen) will work from the installed app. Android and desktop browsers can enable notifications directly, no install needed.

What ProjectPacer can tell you

Four kinds of notification, the same on every channel:

  • Things to review — meetings you haven't logged, and entries that look mis-attributed. Only the suggestion types you've kept on are counted. By default this is one roundup a day; turn on Nudge me during the day (below the row) to get it intraday instead — batched a few hours after something's pending and never more than once every four hours.
  • Running-timer nudge — when a timer looks left-on: it's still running but your connected sources have gone quiet. On Slack you can Stop it right from the message — and it stops the timer at the point your activity trailed off, not the moment you click. It's the same call the in-app Overrun suggestion makes.
  • Start-a-timer nudge — the opposite catch: you're clearly at your desk in working hours but no timer is running. It fires at most once per lull, stays quiet outside your working hours and on weekends, and needs a presence signal to know you're there.
  • Daily digest — a summary of what you tracked, at the end of your workday. It also closes out the day, surfacing anything still left to review.
The start-a-timer nudge needs a presence signal

It only knows you're at your desk from your presence signals — the desktop app (waking or unlocking your computer) or Slack presence. With no presence signal connected there's nothing to read, so this nudge simply never fires.

Quiet hours, cadence, and testing

  • Quiet hours hold everything back overnight (10pm–7am by default) — set the window at the bottom of the page. It applies to every channel at once.
  • Nudge me during the day controls the review cadence — off means one roundup a day, on means intraday batches. It's a single setting shared across channels.
  • Send a test — each row has a Slack test (once a workspace is connected), and the Browser column has its own test link, so you can see exactly what arrives before relying on it.
Set your time zone

Quiet hours and the digest are read against your clock, from the time zone under Settings → Preferences — which also sets when your workday ends, and so when the digest arrives. Without a time zone, those hours are read in UTC and can land at odd times.

It won't nag. A digest arrives at most once a day, a running timer is nudged once, a start nudge comes at most once every few hours, and a review item is raised once and then never repeated — you won't get the same suggestion two days running.
