GitHub
Keep issues in step with your tasks, sync a board's status column, and feed commit activity into suggestions.
Connecting GitHub does two things: it keeps issues and tasks in sync (both ways), and it lets commit activity power AI suggestions.
Installing the GitHub App and mapping repos needs a workspace-admin role. You can connect more than one GitHub account or org, and disconnect any of them later (which removes its repo mappings).
Connect it
In Settings → Apps & integrations → GitHub, install the ProjectPacer GitHub App on the account or org you work in, and choose which repos it can access.
Point each repo at a ProjectPacer project. A project can gather several repos; each repo maps to one project.
What syncs
Issues and tasks stay in step two ways. Some fields sync always, some are on by default and can be turned off per project, and custom board fields are off until you map them:
| Field | Sync |
|---|---|
| Issue title ↔ task name | Always |
| Description ↔ notes | Always |
| Open / closed | Always |
| Status (board column) | Configurable — see below |
| Labels | On by default (adds a Labels field) — can turn off |
| Assignee | On by default (maps to a member) — can turn off |
| Custom board fields | Off until you map them to task fields |
A synced column shows a small GitHub mark on the task table, and its options become read-only (you manage them on GitHub).
Syncing a board's status
Point a project's Status at a GitHub Projects v2 board column ("Configure board"), or fall back to plain issue open/closed, or don't sync status at all.
GitHub Apps can only see organization project boards — a board on a personal account won't appear in the list. If your board isn't showing up, that's almost always why. Move it to an org, or sync status from open/closed instead.
Field mapping
For a Projects v2 board, you can map its custom fields (text, number, date, single-select, iteration, milestone) onto your task fields, and they sync both directions.
Activity as a source
When you commit, comment, review, or work an issue, that's a timestamped signal that helps spot untracked work.
Installing the App enables issue sync and turns the GitHub suggestion source on for you (whoever connected it) — off any time on this page or under Settings → AI suggestions. Everyone else on the team opts in for themselves there. It only ever records that you did something and which project it touched — never code, comments, or diffs.
ProjectPacer requests read-only metadata — that an event happened, when, and which project it touched — to draft time for review. It does not store source code, diffs, or comment bodies. Installing the App is admin-only, but it only turns the suggestion source on for the person who installed it; each teammate opts in for themselves. If you administer the workspace, telling your team which integrations are enabled is your responsibility.
Track from your menu bar, and feed presence into suggestions.
