Welcome to ProjectPacer

What ProjectPacer does, the model everything's built on, and the three things to set up before your first tracked hour.

ProjectPacer is time tracking that paces your engagements — it helps you log the hours you work, recover the billable time you'd otherwise forget, and see the money behind your work. This gets you from a brand-new account to your first tracked, billable hour.

The model everything hangs off

Three things underpin the whole app:

  • Clients — who the work is for (a company you bill, or yourself for internal work).
  • Projects — the thing you track time against. Every project belongs to one client.
  • Time entries — a block of time on a project, from a timer or added by hand.

That's the whole foundation. Clients, projects, and entries goes deeper, but you don't need more than this to start.

Set up in three steps

Create a client

Open Clients & projects from the sidebar and add a client. Working solo? Make one for yourself (e.g. Internal) so your own time has a home.

Create a project

Add a project under that client and give it a color. This is what your timers and entries attach to.

Track your first entry

Go to Track, pick the project, and start the timer — or add time by hand. That's it, you're tracking.

You can start with just this

One client and one project is enough. Everything else below is optional — add it only when you need it.

What's optional (and what you might not see)

Rates, tasks, goals, engagements, mileage, integrations, and teammates are all add-ons you turn on as you need them — none are required to track time. Which of them appear depends on your plan and your role: for example, billing figures only show if your role grants them, and some features can be switched off for a whole workspace. So if a screen in these guides isn't in your sidebar, it usually just isn't enabled for you yet — see Roles & permissions.

Where to go next

Track your first entry

The two ways to log work — a live timer, or a manual entry.
