The Chrome extension
Track from your browser toolbar — start, stop, and manage time without leaving the page, with one client per Chrome profile and no page or site tracking.
The Chrome extension puts a timer in your browser toolbar: click the icon to start, stop, and edit time without leaving the page you're on — no ProjectPacer tab required. It's built around Chrome profiles: each profile is tied to one client, so the time you track in it is attributed before you even start.
The extension is a companion to your ProjectPacer account — install it from the Chrome Web Store, then connect it to your workspace (below). It only ever talks to ProjectPacer; there's no separate account to set up.
Install and connect
Open the ProjectPacer extension on the Chrome Web Store, click Add to Chrome, and pin it so the icon stays in your toolbar.
Open the popup and click Log in. A ProjectPacer window opens; sign in if needed, choose the workspace, and click Connect. The window closes and you're in — the extension gets its own revocable access, so no password is ever stored in it.
Choose the client and project this Chrome profile is for. That becomes the timer's default, so your time is attributed the moment you start. You can change it any time from Settings.
Track time
Start runs a timer on the picked project; Stop ends it. Starting one auto-stops any other running timer, same as the web app, and today's entries and total show below. A Task picker appears when the project has tasks, and a Task type picker when your workspace uses them — the same rules as the web and desktop timers.
Around the popup
- The logo (top-left) opens the web app.
- The footer has the workspace switcher (when you're in more than one) and the ⚙ gear for Settings.
- Settings holds the default client/project, Notifications, the toolbar badge, and Sign out. The toolbar badge shows the review count, or a play/pause mark while a timer runs.
Presence as a source (optional)
Once this profile has a client, the extension can also feed presence into AI suggestions — reporting only whether you're active, idle, or away, attributed to this profile's client. That's what lets ProjectPacer draft the browser time you forgot to put a timer on, so you can log it in a click.
Presence records only that you were at your computer, attributed to this profile's client — never the sites you visit, your URLs, page content, screenshots, or keystrokes. It never logs time by itself: it only helps draft suggestions you approve. It's yours alone, and off in one click — clear the profile's client, or turn the browser signal off under Integrations in the web app.
Review your suggestions
When presence has helped ProjectPacer draft time you worked without a timer, a ✦ appears in the header with a count. Open it for your Missed time suggestions: each card shows the stretch, how it was detected, and an editable project. Log turns it into a real entry, Dismiss hides it, and Log all clears the list. Anything the popup doesn't handle inline links out with Refine and see more in ProjectPacer.
Time seen only from your browser must clear a 15-minute floor before it's suggested — a brief tab visit isn't real work, so it's left out. Stretches corroborated by other sources (the desktop app, a commit, a calendar event) surface as usual.
How presence turns into time you can review.
